tour dates What the Press Says... MacDonald's songs make political point Florida-based singer and songwriter Rod MacDonald is both a scholar and a writer. Many think this has helped his career as a musician. Graduating with a bachelor's degree from the University of Virginia in the late 1960s, he went on to serve as a correspondent for Newsweek magazine and earned a law degree from Columbia University in the early '70s. Then he chose to make music his career, and his combination of "politics, passion and a sense of humor" - emoted in plain but tuneful everyman tenor backed by poignant, folk-rooted guitar playing - began to create a buzz within his then-home of Greenwich Village. Since then, over the span of six albums, he has earned much critical praise. Fort Lauderdale, Florida's City Link praised his knack for "funneling the human experience through fictional but universally recognizable men and women"; the All-Music Guide calls him one of the most "politically and socially aware lyricists" of our time.
