Singer/Songwriter James Gordon has released a milestone recording with Pipe Street Dreams. It is his first solo project since departing from the legendary Canadian folk trio Tamarack. Known as a "songwriter's songwriter", Gordon's works have been recorded by many North American artists including The Cowboy Junkies, Melanie Doane, Al Simmons and James Keelaghan. An intimate, roots/acoustic recording, Pipe Street Dreams has thirteen original songs filled with Gordon's trademark strong vocals and unique lyric style. He accompanies himself on over a dozen instruments, including piano, guitar, mandola, accordion, tin whistle, banjo, percussion, recorder, trumpet, hammered dulcimer, harmonica, organ, synthesizer and electric bass. Fans will recognize the continued interest in the Canadian identity and landscape in his material, and will notice some exciting new directions as well. Some of the material is drawn from his two popular weekly CBC radio features on "Basic Black" and "Ontario Morning".
"James Gordon is a fine singer-songwriter and multi-instrumentalist. ...It is the range and depth of Gordon's songs that is so special, honed to perfection" "Gordon has a feel for the totality of Canada like few songwriters... He expresses deep emotions in fresh ways..." Currently available from Wind River Records: Pipe Street Dreams - JGO4008D - Order Now!
"When you consider such songs as [James Gordon's] Mining For Gold, Harvest Train, Frobisher Bay, Fields of Rock and Snow, and Lonesome Cowboy's Lament, you end up with as enduring a handful of songs as has ever been written in this country by a single writer" |
