Wind River Records

Welcome to Wind River Records! We are a record label devoted primarily to contemporary singer songwriters and acoustic based music, though we're set to prove that there are no boundaries on the sound of music today. Our goal is to feature the best and brightest musicians and songwriters we can find, regardless of genre. With Wind River, you'll find albums that stretch the gamut from acoustic jazz to Australian blues, traditional sounds to modern Americana, singer-songwriters to song interpreters, and contemporary Celtic based pop to Canadian heritage -- in short, the roots of yesterday and tomorrow --

Wind River is an outgrowth of Folk Era Records. Folk Era began as a label devoted to reissues and new releases by artists first popular in the 60's folk boom like Glenn Yarbrough, The Kingston Trio, The Brothers Four, The Chad Mitchell Trio, Bob Gibson, and John Stewart. As we became increasingly involved with contemporary acoustic music, and continually pushed the boundaries of what might be called folk music, we strongly felt our artists needed a new imprint that more accurately reflected the scope of their sound, thus the birth of Wind River. While our Wind River artists have their roots in the same traditions as the music of Folk Era, with Wind River, the sounds and the traditions move in new directions.

Between the two labels, we have over 90 albums in print, and based on the size of our catalogue, are one of the largest independent labels specializing in folk and acoustic music.

Many of our artists are already highly accomplished in their fields. Australian Jeff Lang was nominated for a Roots and Blues Grammy in his native country. Small Potatoes, Cosy Sheridan, and David Roth are all winners of the Kerrville New Folk Songwriting Competition. Lisa Moscatiello has won several WAMMIE (Washington Area Music Awards) and both Lisa and Jack Williams have been raved about in Billboard Magazine -- the music industry bible. Michael Smith is known throughout the world for his legendary songwriting. Erik Darling is recognized for his huge role in popularizing the 12 string guitar. In 1997, 1998 and 1999 Danny Santos was a regional songwriter selected by the Kerrville Folk Festival to open the Ballad Tree as part of the annual New Folk Contest and was named one of the top ten Best Folk Acts 2000-2001 Austin Chronicle's Music Poll. Songs written by our artists have appeared on major albums by the Cowboy Junkies, Suzy Boggus, Jimmy Buffett, among many others.

So please take some time with our site, and learn something about our artists. Sample the music. We're sure you'll find something that amazes you, and hope you'll share in the spirit of Wind River.
