Taylor Whiteside has been a favorite of New England audiences for many years as a member of the popular Northeast Winds, and more recently as the fourth member of the Brandywine Singers. He's also been developing a reputation as a solo artist, and fine songwriter in his own right. Now, with his first solo album, MARTIN GREIGH & OTHER NEW ENGLAND FAVORITES, Taylor cements that reputation, demonstrating why his songs have been sung and recorded by musicians throughout New England, and why he's been in high demand as a studio musician in New England for many years. All of the songs on Martin Greigh were written by Taylor except for two traditional folk songs. Taylor's original compositions are filled with engaging stories, delightful singing, and a distinct flavor of the land. The title track on the album, "Martin Greigh," so perfectly captures the spirit, terror and hardships of New England fishermen that it has become a "must sing" ballad for many New England artists, whether performing in that region or beyond. The Brandywine Singers, who recorded Taylor's song, "They Paid Me Not to Yodel" describe it as Taylors's "Comedic contribution to the cause. A preachy song, with a message," and an effect! It's one that can't help but bring a smile to listener's ears. Finely, the timeless ballad "The Water Is Wide" demonstrates Taylor's gorgeous voice and interpretive skills.
