Rick and Ron Shaw began their musical careers while under-graduates at the University of New Hampshire in the early 1960's. Joining forces with three fellow classmates, they formed a group called the Tradewinds and in 1962 walked away with top honors at the first National Inter-Collegiate Music Competition held at Lycoming College in Williamsport, Pennsylvania. Not long afterwards, they changed their name to the Brandywine Singers and became nationally known, recording albums and appearing on such well-known T.V. shows as Hootennany on ABC-TV, and many others. The Brandywine Singers continued until 1966 when Rick was drafted and Ron joined the successful Pozo Seco Singers with Don Williams. The Singers recorded for Columbia Records and toured the country extensively for the next two years. Ron left the Pozo Seco Singers at the same time Rick was returning from the service, and after brief stints teaching school, the brothers decided that they both loved entertaining too much to ignore it, and the Shaw Brothers was born! In the fall of 1972, Rick and Ron were asked to help form a group to record the now-famous "I'd Like to Teach the World to Sing," that was the basis for many great Coca-Cola commercials. The song became one of the largest selling international hits of all time. Two years later, in 1974, they were offered their own contract with RCA Records and subsequently travelled to London, England to record their album, The Shaw Brothers - Follow Me. Since that time, Rick and Ron have remained the Shaw Brothers, and played to thousands of standing-room-only crowds all over the country. Over the years, the Brothers have performed at hundreds of colleges and universities as well as at most of the major night clubs, state fairs and festivals from coast to coast. They have appeared with such major stars as Bob Hope, Johnny Mathis, Joan Rivers and Bill Cosby and on numerous network T.V. shows like the Mike Douglas Show and ABC's Wide World of Entertainment. They have also toured around the world performing in Canada, Great Britain, Japan, South Korea and Hong Kong. In December of 1986, Folk Era released The Shaw Brothers Collection, and the response has been outstanding. Critical reviewers have found it to be sensational, with comments like, "The Shaw Brothers Collection will take care of any Shaw fan's need for nourishment; it's really a great album!" and "We're treated to a collection of their best-known songs in this album, and when you add the excitement of digital mastering, these older gems really sparkle!" Folk Era is proud to have the Shaw Brothers on their label, and look forward to many more releases.
