"A beautiful, close to the vest program, filled with anecdotal details,
the sort that can only spin out of a rococo musical spirit informed by
(Grove's) level of musical ability" In The Middle Of A Life
From the opening notes of "Darlin," - a song featured on the Acoustic Rainbow Sampler that was sent to over 1,000 acoustic radio programs in August of 1998 - to the closing "If I Ever Had To Say Good-bye To You," the story of IN THE MIDDLE OF A LIFE is George's story of growth. George writes "It's that time during which you realize that what you've done had made you who you are." For George, music in general, and the Kingston Trio in particular are the accomplishments George has created and shared. Nowhere is that more apparent than on "Singing Every Inch Of The Way," - a musical tribute that tells the story of the Kingston Trio. Fan's of George's and the Trio will particularly enjoy George's solo takes on songs from the Kingston Trio's early 80's releases, like the "Longest Beer Of The Night," "Easy To Arrange," and "Looking For The Sunshine." Among the top-notch musicians featured on the album are Leland Skarr (long-time bass player for James Taylor) and Hollywood musical guru Van Dyke Parks (who contributes piano and string arrangements), John Sebastian (of the Lovin' Spoonful) on harmonica, and Kingston Trio members and alumni Stan Kaess, Tom Green, Paul Gabrielson and Bob Shane. |
