With their 1956 record of "The Banana Boat Song," The Tarriers became the first folk trio to place a hit single on the Billboard pop charts. Their ensuing self-titled album brought folk music to the American Hit Parade on its own uncompromised terms, and their live performances provided the model for the folk boom that was soon to follow. Together, Bob Carey, Clarence Cooper and Eric Weissberg (later of ‘Dueling Banjos’ fame) created timeless music of extraordinary power and beauty, blending blues, gospel and bluegrass into a distinctive sound. Tell The World About This was released in November 1960 on Atlantic Records with no fanfare and no supporting single and yet, it has marked the pinnacle of The Tarriers’ seven-year career. Though its sales were never spectacular, this stunning little-known gem sold steadily through word of mouth is considered by many to be a benchmark of the pop-folk era. Whether recorded in monaural or in stereo, this album rarely surfaces among collector’s circles because they are still treasured by the people who bought copies of it forty years ago. This reissue features liner notes by Eric Weissberg and Dave Samuelson. Tell The World About This - TAR1473D - Order Now!
